Antique Victorian 9ct gold locket featuring two oval glass panels set into a smooth gold frame. The surface of the locket is in between rose and yellow, it has more rose colour. To open the locket carefully (using your nail) work out the back of the locket, here two pictures can be placed into the piece or alternatively a momento (pressed flower, material, hair) as the inside is hollow. The pendant has a good weight with a smooth cool surface to touch.
This locket would be an excellent gift and easy to personalise giving the piece an extra dimension, adding to its already long rich history.
The Locket is perhaps the most mysterious and alluring pieces of jewellery. Only the wearer knows what secrets lie within the locket. It has to be the ultimate love token. During the Victorian era, young Victorian women would hide a picture of a man they admired, if the man offered up a lock of hair a marriage proposal usually would follow. Lockets were considered a statement of an intention to marry.
